Yes. I am very OCD about washing my hands. It is bad. I wash after the bathroom, or touch money, eat anything, touch doorknobs, clean tables/dishes, animals...I am also a server at a restaurant where we have no busser, and I probably wash my hands at least 20 times per shift. I constantly have very very dry, cracked, bleeding, sore, red, tops of my hands. I just thought I had dry skin in general. Now, I am not a health care professional or anything, but my Mom who is a Nurse Practitioner said that you can wash your hands too much and it can cause some sort of yeast infection and then actually cause more problems down the road due to the fact that the cracks in your hands are open to the outside world and could in fact contract a bacteria or infection. I am going to try and be more conscious about how often I wash my hands now. PS- My Mom said that it is mostly the soap that drys out my skin. Rinsing with water will never cause the problem that I am having. So continue to rinse away!
Yes, washing your hands too often can lead to dryness and irritation, especially if using harsh soaps or hot water. Over-washing can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to discomfort and possible damage. It's important to find a balance between cleanliness and skin health.
