Scientific pscyhology and parapsychology share many traits. Scientific psychology is the practice of inquiring into the nature of human emotions, reactions and perceptions in controlled laboratory studies. Parapsychology is the the practice of inquiring into specific exceptional experiences relating to mind-oriented communications and effects.

Both use qualitative and quantitative research methods. Both study effects which are often so subtle that they require statiscal analysis to assure the effects in fact exist. And the outcomes of the experiments seem to be sensitive to the beliefs or emotional states not only of subjects but also of the experimenters. This is known as "Experimenter Effect".

Both publish their results in peer-reviewed journals recognized as authoritative in their respective disciplines. Practitioners in both disciplines are members of scientific organizations recognized and accredited by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Is parapsychology and psychology the same?

Psychology is the general field of inquiry into human and animal behavior and perception. Parapsychology is a field of inquiry into exceptional experiences. So while there are similarities they are not one and the same. For example, parapsychology research includes not only studies of cognition (as does psychology) but also studies in what is called 'perturbation' or the ability of the mind to influence the environment. This type of study is not done in scientific psychology.

What is parapsychology?

Parapsychology is a field of study that investigates paranormal or psychic phenomena such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis. It aims to use scientific methods to understand and study these phenomena that are beyond the scope of traditional psychology. However, many of the claims made by parapsychologists have not been empirically validated by the larger scientific community.

What is the difference between pseudopsychology and scientific psychology?

Pseudopsychology refers to beliefs or practices that are not backed by scientific evidence, such as astrology or phrenology. Scientific psychology, on the other hand, involves using rigorous research methods to study behavior and mental processes, and relies on empirical evidence to support its findings.

What is Difference of parapsychology and pseudoscience?

Parapsychology employs research methods in controlled settings. The scientific method is followed carefully. The work involves the study of anomalous phenomena, and as it happens, phenomena that is difficult to produce on demand. It is becoming clear the reason for this has to do with the subtle nature of the phenomena itself. Pseudoscience attempts to employ claims of science in ways that are inconsistent with the scientific method and current research on all fronts. There is generally no support whatsoever, even at the theoretical level for pseudodscientific claims. Many areas of metaphysics, unrelated to parapsychology research, may indeed be forms of pseudoscience. Another area that seems currently pseudoscientific, which is often confused with parapsychology research, is ghost hunting or paranormal investigation. There is currently no scientific research which can validate any of the technologies used by modern ghost hunters. Yet one of the most-often heard claims is that such work is conducted scientifically. Unfortunately this is an example of a claim which has no merit based on available research.

Is the field of parapsychology a valid area of scientific inquiry?

It is debatable whether parapsychology is a valid area of scientific inquiry. So far, parapsychology has not been scientifically confirmed to be real, rather than just an elaborate and profitable series of scams, however, that does not in itself mean that no genuine incident of parapsychology will ever be discovered. Many valid fields of scientific research seemed rather implausible prior to being researched. However, it does not look good for parapsychology. I would not advise anyone to make it their specialty.

Was Parapsychology the religion of Frederick William I?

Parapsychology is a scientific discipline, recognized in the U.S. by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and generally recognized worldwide as a legitimate scientific endeavour. Parapsychology studies some issues in religion as part of a multi-disciplinary set of interests, but the primary research areas focus on Extrasenory Perception and studies of Psychokinesis. So it is doubtful that Frederick William I believed that Parapsychology was a religion per se.
