It depends. They can have a lot of friends out of pity, but I don't really think that they would have many true friends.
Self-absorbed people may struggle to maintain close relationships because they often prioritize themselves over others. While they may have many acquaintances or casual friends, they may find it challenging to maintain deep and meaningful connections.
Many people equate high self-esteem with feelings of self-worth, self-confidence, and self-acceptance. It is often seen as a positive and healthy attitude towards oneself.
A person with a big ego can be called arrogant, conceited, or self-absorbed.
A self-centered person tends to prioritize their own needs, desires, and opinions above those of others. They may lack empathy and have difficulty considering others' feelings or perspectives. They often seek attention, validation, and recognition for themselves while disregarding the needs of others.
Narcissists may not fully realize or acknowledge how self-absorbed they are due to their inflated sense of self-importance and lack of empathy for others. They are often more focused on maintaining and feeding their own ego rather than reflecting on their behavior.

friends
They seldom know you're around (they're needs are more important.)They are so into themselves that they cease to notice you, care about your feelings or discuss how they can help you out in any way.Often self-absorbed people can be care-free and seem as if they don't have a care in the world, yet the mooch money and other things off their friends (and seldom pay the money back or return whatever they borrowed.)They seldom if ever introduce you to others they are around. They seldom care about YOUR friends or family. They will break dates without a care in the world and feel YOU are over-reacting.These are but a few of the things with the self absorbed character traits.

Courtney has no friends, she plays dinosaurs and hellicopters, by her self at dinner.
Just tell her you really like her but you just want to be friends. Then she can still come over and you can still hang out with her and just be friends. But approach the subject slowly.
Jesus is the son of God. He was also God himself on Earth. He cannot be self-absorbed and narcissistic in the sense you mean. Self-promoting? Well, He certainly promoted a better life and future for the many, many, many people He taught, a better way through only Him. I suppose you could say He was promoting Himself, but for the benefit of the people He loved, to give them eternal life.Jesus is not capable of being negatively self-absorbed. Christians strive to be full of Christ, and to live as He would want them to live, and to be ever mindful of His teachings in all they do. Because God is the same as Jesus, certainly Jesus would try to keep His heart turned to God at all times. This might be self-absorbed, in some sense of the word. He doesn't think only of Himself or do things for His own gain, He does the things He does for His children. Was Jesus self-righteous? He didn't need to be. He was righteous alone and righteousness itself. He did not have to think Himself better than His friends or anyone he saw on Earth; He was God. God is everything. He did not, however, act with superiority. Jesus was very humble, especially for God's son, and God Himself. He did not act like He thought He deserved special treatment from the people or leave destruction in His wake when He met nonbelievers or people who treated him cruelly. The man was born in a barn and died with thieves. And it was God all along. Self-righteous? No. The way to righteousness? Yes.
The cast of Self-Absorbed - 2009 includes: Giovannie Espiritu as Heidi Stephen Sugay as Clyde S. Dale
Interested in only one self. Self centered. Arrogant usually. It's an insult.
