Human nature is the most powerful factor in influencing a person's behavior and the factors of heredity and environment have never been proven that one is more powerful than the other. Factors influencing behavior are myriad and hard to distinguished clearly as one or the other but usually a combination; evidence has been either anecdotal or opinion. However, most human behavior can be linked to basic innate factors of being human.

Nature and nurture both play important roles in shaping behavior. While environment can have a significant impact, heredity (genetics) also contributes to an individual's behavior. Ultimately, both factors interact in complex ways to influence behavior.

The most powerful influence is human nature. The environment, both social and physical (the difference, for example, in being raised in Queens, NY or Lake Charles, LA) determines a great deal. Heredity determines how outside influences will affect each of us personally, reinforced when a person is raised by blood relatives. The effect of which influence, environment or heredity, is more powerful can't be defined because a person's behavior consists of so many varied elements, some more influenced by environment and some more influenced by heredity. Each of these elements would have to be studied and the influence determined, which given the complexity of each individual, I don't believe is possible.

If someone did try, I believe that they would find that the degree of influence of each kind varied from person to person. I further believe that anyone claiming to have a definitive answer to this question is either arrogant or deluded.
