Appearance can dramatically affect one's concept of themselves. How one feels about his or her appearance can affect whether or not the individual feels good about how they present themselves to the public.

There are some things you can control and some not. In that sense, people often treat others who have a difference badly. Then, it becomes a cycle of being victimized and acting like a victim. Not really a case of self esteem.

Most of us do what we can to fit in and let the rest fall where it may. You gain confidence from things you can do well and superficial admiration for appearance is just that: superficial.

Well, when somebody looks at their reflection, they might see themselves as being fat, ugly, too skinny, etc. This means that person can become self conscious and they believe that people are laughing at them or staring at them. If this person is a little over weight or anorexic, they can become bullied because of that, which can lower a persons self esteem.
