One variable is directly proportional to another if increasing/decreasing the first variable increases/decreases the second variable by the same proportion. For example, consider the equation a = b x c. "a" is directly proportional to both "b" and "c". If you double "b" or "c" then "a" is also doubled etc...

Two variables are directly proportional to each other if they increase or decrease together at a constant rate. In other words, if you plot the relationship between the two variables on a graph and the points lie on a straight line passing through the origin, then they are directly proportional. Mathematically, this can be expressed as y = kx, where k is a constant.

How do you tell if a boy in your class likes you?

Some signs a boy in your class likes you could be if he tries to spend time with you, makes an effort to talk to you, or shows interest in your hobbies or activities. However, the best way to know for sure is to directly ask him or engage in conversation to see if he displays signs of romantic interest.

Should you sue people for insulting you?

Suing someone for insulting you may not always be the best course of action. It is important to consider the emotional and financial costs of pursuing legal action, as well as whether the insult meets the criteria of defamation or harassment in your jurisdiction. Often, addressing the issue directly with the person or seeking mediation can be more effective in resolving conflicts.

How do you get rid of an annoying person?

It's important to address the situation calmly and directly by communicating how their behavior is impacting you. Setting boundaries, limiting your interactions with them, or seeking support from others can also be effective in managing the situation. If needed, consider seeking help from a mediator or authority figure to address the issue.

How do you ask out a boy in your third grade class?

Just be yourself. Hang around him more and more. Then slip a note in his backpack where he can see it, asking him if he likes you. Tell him to give a note back to you, to see if he likes you. Don't tell him that you like him, then, if he says he likes you, send him another note saying you like him too. Then, you will automaticly be "going out" if not, then pass him another note asking if he will go out with you. He will probably say yes.

How do I convince my friend's parents to not tell my parents that we snuck out of the house?

You can try to tell them that you are so sorry, will never do it again, and tell them you know it was a big mistake and to please not tell them, but no guarentees.

A function is linear if one variable is directly proportional to the other.

How can you tell if one variable is inversely proportional to another variable?

if one goes up as the other goes down (or vice versa) they are inversely proportional

How can you tell the difference between a graph in which one variable is directly proportional to another and a graph in which two variables vary inversely?

1. You can tell the difference because the proportional one has the same slope while the inversely one has opposite reciprocal slope.

How do you tell if a math table is inversely proportional or directly proportional?

Generally, if y increases as x increases, this is a hint that the quantity is directly proportional, and if y decreases as x increases, the relation might be inversely proportional. However, this is not always the case. x and y are directly proportional if y = kx, where k is a constant. x and y are inversely proportional if y = k/x, k is constant. This is the best way to tell whether the quantities are directly or inversely proportional.

How can you tell when x and y are NOT directly proportional?

When there is at least one pair of x and y whose ratio is different from the ratios for the others.

What is an example of inversely proportional?

If quantity A is directly proportional to another quantity B, it means that if B is doubled so is A. When B is tripled so is A. It also works in the other direction; if A is tripled so is B. It works for any factor. In mathematical terms one may write: A = C * B Where C is some numerical constant.

You cannot.

How can you tell from the graph of Molly's garden on the previous slide that it represents a proportional relationship?

The graph of a proportional relationship has the same unit rate, is a straight line, and starts at the origin.

How can i tell if a relation is a function?

you can tell if there is an independent (x) and a dependent (y) variable

What are the independent and depent variables?

You can tell which is the independent variable and which is the dependent variable by changing the equation into an "if/then" statement. Example: y = 3x In this example, x is the independent variable and y is the dependent variable. If you give me x, I will tell you y. If x = 1, then y = 3 If x = 2, then y = 6 So you give me the independent variable, and then I will be able to determine the dependent variable.
