It was done very slowly over a number of years, in a way, as early as 1937. The Nazi's spread stories around about how foreigners, [Jews] sold Germany in WW1, which was why it lost. The foreigners made money, while the Germans were starving. Forgetting to mention, that these 'Foreigners' were in fact Loyal Germans, though Jewish. Many had in fact fought on the side of Germany in WW1. They also 'forgot' to mention, that the factories, that were owned by German Jews, were better places to work, with higher wages, and better conditions, than those owned by Germans. A true case of 'selective' reporting!. So in a very slow, and it has to be said, a very clever way, the Public started to accept what they heard, and so they accepted that something has to be done to rid Germany of these 'Foreigners'. Also, at the same time, the Nazi's told the public, that Germans living in the east, were being attacked by Polish Gangs, and Germany [in the form of the Nazi's] would rescue our poor people. So Germany would teach these Poles a lesson, and invade them. It was all a set up, even to the Nazi's attacking a Radio station on the Polish/German Border, and leaving dead 'Soldiers' behind in Polish Uniforms. [They were Camp Victims, killed on the spot in fact]. Then there was the Fire in the Government Building in Berlin, which was reported as a Communist plot, [in fact done by the SS]. Germany was under attack by Foreigners, as was reported in the Nazi controlled News Papers, and so it was not long before Germany was at War. The people who saw through the 'plots' were sent to the Camps. The Camps kept the people under control, as well as the lies.

Propaganda in Nazi Germany was used to manipulate public opinion, promote Nazi ideology, and demonize targeted groups such as Jews. By controlling the information and shaping public perception, the Nazi regime was able to maintain control over the German population through fear, indoctrination, and censorship. Propaganda also fostered a sense of unity and loyalty among the German people to the regime and its leadership.

What do propaganda and censorship have in common?

When propaganda is being used their is an explicit attempt to highlight one aspect of a situation favoured by the person doing the propagandizing. In order for propaganda to be effective the same message needs to get delivered from multiple sources (various media, different government institutions, by public figures, etc...) the message must be straight forward and delivered consistently over a period of time. Competing ideas or positions serve to diminish the impact propaganda and provide more information and perspectives to the public which may not support the propaganda effort. The goal is to put out one opinion and have everyone take on that opinion, having many opinions/perspectives dilutes the propaganda effort. Censorship can be explicit by forcing media and people to not challenge the messages being sent (for example under the threat of arrest) It can be implicit/tacit by privately speaking to key decision makers and getting them on the side of the propaganda, or ridiculing all other options, or for example getting advertisers to stop buying advertising is magazines that don;t support the propaganda position.

What is an example of an appeal to fear?

An appeal to fear can be any form of speech or writing intended to sway people to a particular belief, action, etc. by making them afraid, especially if there is little or no justification for the fear. A classic example of appeals to fear would be Nazi propaganda that claimed the German way of life was under attack from various political and ethnic groups. Many people became willing to accept dictatorship as a way to supposedly keep them "safe".

How did Britain use propaganda to win American support in ww1?

In World War I, British propaganda took various forms, including pictures, literature and film. Britain also placed significant emphasis on atrocity propaganda as a way of mobilizing public opinion against Germany. Britain had no propaganda agencies at the war's outbreak, but an organization was soon established at Wellington House under Charles Masterman in response to propaganda activities in Germany. During most of the war, responsibility for propaganda was divided between various agencies, resulting in a lack of coordination. It was not until 1918 that activities were centralized under theMinistry of Information. When the war finished, almost all of the propaganda machinery was dismantled. There were various interwar debates regarding British use of propaganda, particularly atrocity propaganda. Commentators such as Arthur Ponsonby exposed many of the alleged atrocities as either lies or exaggeration, leading to a suspicion surrounding atrocity stories which meant a reluctance to believe the realities of Nazi persecution in the Second World War.

Why does North Korea use propaganda?

North Korea is not the only country that uses propaganda. Every country in the world does; it is just much harder to recognize propaganda in your own country. We notice North Korean propaganda because it is more ridiculous and overstated than most countries' propaganda. The reason North Korea uses propaganda is to create a society less willing to revolt against the North Korean government. Currently, the North Korean government starves many of its own people, lacks any serious internet capabilities, requires all of its citizens to belong to the Juche religion (worshiping the previous leaders of North Korea like gods), and place hundreds of thousands of prisoners in camps. Any sensible group of people under those conditions would at least consider rebellion. However, the North Korean government has carefully calibrated the propaganda machine in its own country to "inform people" that the world outside of North Korea is significantly worse and the US, South Korea, and Japan are all conspiring to hurt the North Korean people. In this way, the tyrannical North Korean government looks like a hero as opposed to the monstrous villain that it is.
