I'm taking a stereotype to mean: the 'common impression of a type of person based on what the majority believe / expect'.
This comes from social conditioning (both from larger social sources of films, advertising, media, etc, and smaller ones, family beliefs, school, etc).
Social conditioning forms neuron pathways in our brains, built up over time.
When faced with a familiar stereotype, these pathways are triggered and the majority of our thoughts follow those conditioned pathways.
Also, all thinking causes chemicals to be released into the body, so as to allow us to 'feel' what we think.
Therefore we are thinking, and feeling, what we have (by social conditioning) learnt to think and feel. And so this affects how we feel about people we recognise as a particular stereotype.
One thing to add. Social conditioning categorises us; it separates us into 'this' or 'that'. The emotion Love causes the opposite. It makes us connected and unified. So when we fall in love, we do not see the category of stereotype of our beloved. If we fall out of love, it then reappears.
Cultural stereotypes affect peoples point of view because it inhibits you from seeing any other type of view.
Some common types of stereotypes include racial stereotypes, gender stereotypes, age stereotypes, and cultural stereotypes. These preconceived notions can lead to unfair generalizations about individuals or groups based on their characteristics, often perpetuating discrimination and bias. It is important to recognize and challenge stereotypes in order to promote equality and understanding.
Social perception refers to how individuals form impressions and make judgments about other people. Stereotypes can influence social perception by leading individuals to make assumptions about a person based on their membership in a particular social group, rather than assessing them as an individual. This can lead to biased or inaccurate judgments about others.
Stereotypes about women can limit their opportunities by forming false perceptions about their capabilities, leading to discrimination and barriers to advancement. These stereotypes can perpetuate gender biases and restrict women's rights to equality by reinforcing outdated societal expectations and roles. Overcoming these stereotypes is crucial in achieving gender equality and empowering women to reach their full potential.
Stereotypes can influence our behavior by shaping our perceptions and expectations of others, leading to unconscious biases. Even when we are consciously trying to defy stereotypes, these ingrained beliefs can still influence our thoughts and actions. It is important to be aware of these biases and actively work to challenge and dismiss them in order to promote more objective and fair interactions with others.
Cultural stereotypes affect peoples point of view because it inhibits you from seeing any other type of view.
