My advice to all teenagers - just look inside yourself and find the good things you can do. Realize that you are a unique/one of a kind human being. Instead of putting each other down because of differences realize that those differences are what makes life wonderful. And never give up in your attempt to improve upon your strengths.

Teens can cope with low self-esteem about their appearance by focusing on their strengths and talents, surrounding themselves with supportive friends and family, practicing self-care activities like exercise and hobbies, and seeking professional help from a therapist or counselor if needed. Additionally, consuming positive, body-positive media and challenging negative thoughts can also help improve self-esteem.

  • During puberty in teens they are going through some hormonal changes in their body. They can be moody; cranky; happy one moment and sad the next; depressed; feel sometimes they are alone even though they may have friends or, they feel left out (touchy about what their friends may do or say.) It is very normal. Teens going through puberty are part child and adult and they are gearing up to move forward to adulthood and because they haven't had enough experience in society yet and are unsure of themselves along with the hormonal changes they can have low self esteem, but that will pass as they experience life.

Puberty is a time of great changes - both in your body and in your mind. Suddenly, you're not in control of what's going on, and that's alarming. Also, your brain is suddenly able to think of what might happen in a way it has not been doing before, and you learn how to worry. This makes you start worrying about everything - how you look, how others think about you, and whether you're a good person or not. It'll pass gradually as you learn how to ignore the worrying thoughts.
