Turn from all self serving desires, to serving a purpose that is greater than oneself. Ego is Latin for "I". The egotistical person sees themselves at the center of the universe. Therefore, everything must feed into their perception of how the world should be. How to kill this ego? Instead of having the "I", i.e. myself, at the center of the person's universe, put the "other" at the center of the universe of one's mind. The "other" which is now all important, no longer focuses on the ego. The "other" can be one's family, religion, political agenda, or anything else the individual wishes to serve besides themselves.
