A number of stereotypes are maintained through the media and movies. When people are shown doing certain things because of age, race, religion, disability, and other factors this keeps the stereotype active. Jokes and other items also contribute to this as well as references to people in discriminatory ways. The stereotype is reinforced when numbers of people repeat the false impressions or retell jokes about other people. Names of teams and products also add to the reinforcement of stereotypes making it possible for people to use them.
an example.
(I'm assuming that you mean in the middle-high school area)
It's partly due to everybody wanting to be special. They come up with reasons why they're better than somebody else. This sometimes separates people into groups with similar (often untrue) stereotypical characteristics. This is where the 'geeks', 'jocks', and 'goths' come from. Sometimes people want to be seen this way, but most of the time not.
Also, people in school haven't had as much experience in the world as older people and have made their mind up (in a rather simple way) about how the world works.
Part of it can also be blamed on the media and how they portray what is popular and 'cool'. "You don't want to be like the others, you want to be different, and these shoes will make you different." Making other people seem the same makes you seem different. The majority of people in school haven't even really discovered their true identities yet, either.
Most teens think that they're the center of the universe, and when you put many of them in the same building, they'll think up stereotypes that help them to seem better. They perpetuate it themselves.
I hope this answer was satisfactory.
Stereotyping is perpetuated in society as the norm. They contribute greatly to how other form opinions on everyday and they effect how things are marketed to groups.
The long and short of it is...all racism is stereotyping but not all stereotyping is racism.
The biggest shortcoming of stereotyping is that you miss what is unique about each individual. The biggest danger in stereotyping is that people get hurt unnecessarily.
what are six ways to avoid bias, prejudice, and stereotyping
Stereotyping is usually because of race, and labeling is because of an incedent
This is improper stereotyping of a race of people, and, therefore, an offensive question to many people. Black people are no more loud than any other group. See the related question below about why black people are tough for more information about the problem in society with stereotyping, bigotry, and racism.
The noun "stereotyping" means attaching a generic meaning or generalization to things or people, rather than recognizing them as special or unique. This is often done in society for people of ethnic groups or races.
