Almost every human behaviour has been given a lable, and a drug to treat it. The manual used by psychiatrists and psycologists now lists over 400 mental disorders, and virtually anyone can be diagnosed as mentally ill, and put on anti-depessants or other psycotropic medication. Your question answers itself. Sure, there are people who have geniuine mental disorders who benefit greatly from the right treatment and drugs, but the term has been broadened to include most of the population.Remember that the psychotropic drug industry is huge, and growing. The term "normal" is ambiguous and open to interpretation. Human behavior is highly varied and depends on many things, including our genetic makeup and our life experiences. I suppose you could define a psycologically normal person as someone who is able to relate to people in a rational way without causing harm to themselves and others, and is able to function on a daily basis.We all wish that at least some parts of our personalities were somehow "better". That's normal. We all go through periods of feeling down and lacking in self esteem, and at times have trouble sleeping. That's normal too. When those things become debilitating and sustained over long periods, it is no longer normal, and treatment is needed. Conditions such as schitzophrenia and phychopathy are not considered normal.

However, having some level of self-esteem issues or sleep disturbances does not necessarily mean someone has a mental disorder.
