Stereotypes of Rottweilers are that they are nasty, bossy, vicious dogs. They were popular in the 80's 90's and were bred badly by gang culture as a status dog. Often used by drug dealers to hide drugs under their collars which only the owner could retrieve news for the police.

The Rotty originates from Germany and was used as a cattle herding dog and as a guard dog for the cattle and owner when travelling back and fore to market.

I own a 5 month old Rottweiller, my dog has not displayed any of the stereotypes associated with the breed. He is very friendly and even though he is still in the playful puppy stage has been very easy to train. He is very gentle and protective over my young family, and is very sociable with other dogs. My belief, on any breed of dog, depends on how the owner trains and treats the dog. A dog is an animal and no matter how loyal and obedient your dog is they are still ANIMALS and run on instinct, any dog could hurt you so make sure you're top of "the pack" from the start when owning any dog.
