There are a number of weaknesses in Freuds theories. For instance, a lot of it is based on subconscious, something that cannot really be objectively measured. Secondly, a lot of the predictions you would make from the theories (for instance, that children from single families will necessarily have gender issues and become homosexual) are simply not the case. Also, his theories were based entirely of his study of generally pretty wealthy Vienese families. Ultimately though, his theories fail as they are unfalsifiable, and thus unscientific.
