Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the fact that our moods are created by our own interpretations of external events. And when this interpretation is distorted then the resulting moods are negative and unpleasant.

So, simply, CBH focuses on changing your distorted ways of thinking that result in negative cognitions (thoughts) and therefore negative emotions.

How it does that is by:

1.Identifying distorted thoughts

2.Determining what kind of distortion applies

3.Replacing distorted irrational thoughts with rational more realistic ones.
