It means that you are indeed, asleep!
Some flying dreams fall under a category of dreams known as lucid dreaming. Lucid dreams occur when you become aware that you are dreaming. Many dreamers describe the ability to fly in their dreams as an exhilarating, joyful, and liberating experience. If you are flying with ease and enjoying the scene and landscape below, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation. You have risen above something. It may also mean that you have gained a different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power. To dream that you are flying signifies a sense of freedom where you had initially felt restricted and limited. Dreams of flying generally express feelings of freedom, joy and/or enthusiasm. The dream reflects the dreamer's feelings. Such dreams express similar sentiments as common expressions such as "flying high," and "on cloud nine."
Dreams of flying are very common. They are generally interpreted in one of three ways. One - Flying can be interpreted as creativity. The desire and exhilaration of the creative process seen in the freedom and power of flight. Two - Flying can be interpreted as a need or desire to run away, flee, "fly," or escape. It is not a coincidence that people speak of flying away from trouble. Three - Freud interpreted flying as sexual desire and erection. Freud interpreted very nearly everything as sexual.
Yes, you can die in a dream, but it does not mean you will die in real life. Dreaming of death can symbolize the end of something in your life or a fear of change.
Not remembering a dream does not necessarily mean you didn't dream. It is common for people to have dreams but not recall them upon waking up. Factors like sleep pattern, stress levels, and overall health can affect dream recall.
If you die in your dream and don't wake up, it does not mean you will die in real life. Dreaming of death is often symbolic and can represent a fear of change or a desire for a fresh start. Your brain will typically create a new dream scenario or you may wake up shortly after.
When you dream about yourself flying, it only means that you enjoyed your daytime.
One must assume that the bird beneath the skin is struggling to get out. So the message of the dream might be that there is something beautiful inside the dreamer that needs to be set free - music, perhaps?
I had this exact same dream 2 weeks ago -- only I was on a space station, looking out through a window, and I saw a massive white light in the shape of a bird or perhaps even an owl.
