I am working for over 2 years as Style and Fashion Psychologist so have a quite good idea of what it is:)
Psychology offers understanding of our behaviours and thoughts in various areas of our lives, including fashion. As Fashion Psychologist I work with individuals, companies and PR and media sharing that knowledge.
With individuals it's all about how the clothes affect their emotioneal states, their cognitive abilities, their confidence as well as how fashion is a tool to creating the best possible image of yourself which will allow you to be successful in every area of your life.
With companies it's all about showing them how employees are the representation of the company hence they need to dress in a way congruent with company's image. But it's also to do with the way their dress affect their cognitive abilities and well-being hence the productivity.
With PR and media I act as an expert on campaigns, help shape campaigns from psychological angle, write articles, comment on various issues etc.
The applications of psychology in fashion industry are really varied.
