Let's focus on emotional conflict. The person is experiencing contradictory feelings about the situation or as it unfolds. It's like a gag test I used to give my students. It was entitled "the hidden brain damage test" and one of the statement you are suppose to answer true or false to applying that statement to yourself was "I don't like my loved one." How can you both hate and love someone at the same time? Just because you have found you hate and love someone at the same time doesn't mean you have to act on the hate. Acknowledge it and more on to loving the other person.

Dysfunctional conflict refers to disagreement or tension that hinders a group's performance or relationships. Emotional conflict stems from personal feelings, such as anger or resentment, rather than rational differences of opinion. Both types of conflict can have negative impacts on individuals and teams if not effectively addressed.
