anal expulsive
Classical conditioning is primarily stored in the cerebellum, hippocampus, and amygdala of the brain. The cerebellum is involved in motor responses, the hippocampus is important for memory formation, and the amygdala is responsible for emotional responses associated with conditioning.
The term refers to psychology as promulgated by Sigmund Freud. Paraphrased, it states that children who experience conflicts during the time of their toilet training, may become obsessed with being orderly, and in control. This is sometimes expressed in their excretory control habits, where they will avoid moving their bowels unless it is at a preferred place and time. Such people are regarded as being overly controlling, or so detail oriented that it becomes an obsession, and by extension, annoying to all those around them. Since the term has entered the common lexicon, it has become cliché to the point that the original meaning has no significance. To describe somebody as "anal" today is to denigrate what may be an excellent or valiant effort put forth when others might not bother.
One of Freud's theories is the theory psychosexual development. It states that people have sexual desires from birth and they develop in stages. There are five stages in Freud's psychosexual theory. From birth to age one, a person is in the "Oral" stage. From age one to age three, a person is in the "Anal" stage. From age three to age six, a person is in the "Phallic" stage. From age six to puberty, a person is in a "Latency" stage. From puberty onward, a person is in the "Genital" stage. Freud says that if one of the stage's desires is not fully met, the person will become fixated on that stage. A person with a fixation on the Oral stage can become either orally aggressive or orally passive. Orally aggressive people often chew gum, or chew on erasers and pencils. Orally passive people often smoke or eat a lot. A person fixated on the Anal stage can become either anal retentive or anal expulsive. An anal retentive person is often extremely neat and organized, whereas an anal expulsive person is careless and disorganized. A person fixated on the Phallic stage can develop an Oedipus or an Electra Complex. A person fixated on the Latency stage will not be fulfilled through sexual interactions. A person fixated on the Genital stage will have unstable relationships and may be impotent.
Some associations used for Freud's stages of psychosexual development are: ORAL (0-1 year) - "Oral fixation" like sucking on a pacifier or thumb. ANAL (1-3 years) - "Anal retentive" behaviors associated with toilet training. PHALLIC (3-6 years) - Oedipus complex involving rivalry with same-sex parent. LATENCY (6-puberty) - Sexual feelings repressed and dormant. GENITAL (puberty-onward) - Mature sexual interests and relationships.
It's important to remember that everyone has different experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives that shape their behavior and actions. It's not accurate or fair to label a large group of people as "idiots" based on personal frustrations or observations. It's always helpful to approach others with empathy and understanding, even if there are disagreements or differences in opinions.
Anal retentive means you are so paranoid, you keep hold of your own excrement by being "anal retentive". So, another way to say "anal retentive", is paranoid. To add extra emphasis, hyper paranoid or similar.
Sort of. It's short for "anal retentive," which is an older psychiatric term. People who are anal retentive were thought to have been hard to potty train as children, and were thus overly obsessed with controlling everything around them.

As tempting as it is to write a snarky response like "Anal-Retentive Twaddle," the truth is that "art" is not an acronym and the individual letters do not stand for any words in particular.
A good way to use retentive in a sentence is... "How do you use the word retentive in a sentence?"
He has a very retentive memory.
Pleasure in retaining the feces is unlikely, fear of the expulsion process is more likely. Never create a battleground over the issue, especially with a young child. A warm bath at a calm time of day, in a warm bathroom may be helpful; Shreddies, veggies, avoid cheese for a few days, and if you can handle the hyperactive side effect, Fudgeos are wickedly laxative! Never give adult laxative without a doctor's advice, to the anal retentive child.
A person who is described as picky or anal retentive tends to be excessively particular about details and exhibits a strong desire for order and control. They may have rigid standards and can become frustrated when things don't meet their expectations. This behavior often stems from a need for predictability and can manifest in various aspects of life, including organization, cleanliness, and decision-making. While such traits can lead to high standards, they may also create challenges in relationships and adaptability.
