The media reports the facts, or at least is suppossed to. Propoganda aims at presenting a positive image on the homefront and a negative image to the opponnents front and truth can be twisted or warped to suit the needs of the moment.
"Rosie the Riveter" was one of the best-known symbols of government propaganda to attract women workers during World War 2. She represented the women who worked in factories and shipyards to support the war effort while the men were away fighting.
Those are the basic tools for going into war. The average natural born citizen in any country is continuously indoctrinated into the national culture starting about the time they begin understanding the meaning of words. If you control those tools, you are ready for a war.
Propaganda was used both positive and negative during WW1. The reason why is because propaganda was used to get and recruit more men to participate in the war, and fight for their own country. The other side of the propaganda was used to insult or make a bad reputation at their enemy, so more supporters would be on their side to fight the enemy.
Propoganda, in general, is a method of portraying information so that your view or actions look noble and right as opposed to your enemy who is portrayed as cowardly and dastardly. During war propoganda is used to attack the enemy over the airwaves and in print while attempting to keep the homefront calm by portraying the cause as just and noble.

Rationing in the United Kingdom effectively ended in the years following World War II, with significant changes occurring in the early 1950s. The Labour government, led by Prime Minister Clement Attlee, began to ease restrictions gradually starting in 1947, but it was the Conservative government under Winston Churchill that officially ended food rationing in 1954. By then, the economy had stabilized, and food supplies had improved, allowing the government to lift rationing measures that had been in place since the war.
In Britain, rationing actually got tougher after WWII.
1939 everyone in Britain was issued with a rationing book (in World War 2 )
Propaganda was used to villianize the enemy, and to encourage the war effort.
