People form values from themselves, their family, friends, religion and various philosophies.
I have not had this experience having met several thousand people over many decades. If someone did introduce them self to me including their religion or nationality, it would lead me to believe that they considered that an important part of who they are, of how they see themselves.
Well, in the Christian faith, many people are thought to be stereotypical. One of the main reasons for this is because of how most churches that got away from what the Bible says about not judging people based on how they look or what background they come from became well known for rejecting people based on how some or most of the people in a congregation (the people that listen to a sermon in a Christian church) felt about new people that came into the church building - especially shown in the earlier years of the U.S.
People do not hate Catholics. Catholics are the most peaceful and the peace loving people in the flock. Religions of other sects feel insecure as Roman Catholic Religion has maximum number of followers, so this has created a hatred among them. EDIT: The Roman Catholic religion does NOT have a maximum number of followers. No one that wants to join the Catholic Church is excluded.
People fight over various issues such as power, resources, religion, politics, territory, and personal conflicts. These fights can escalate into physical altercations, verbal arguments, or even wars, leading to negative consequences for individuals and society.
