The media leads to stereotypes is an excuse so people can complain and whine.

If you do not like a show because of stereotypes, or it's content such as sex, nudity, violence , blood, gore or language here's something to do.........now and check the ratings, now the show title of the show that you are watching, turn the T.V. off, watch something else by changing the channel. Get parental blocks to avoid this content in the first place, watch the show before your children see it and if you do not approve of the show........ put in another show, go to WWW.Common Sense Media.org to see what the show, video game, or movie is about before your children get it.

Now video games............If you do not approve by another game, now the ratings and check the ratings, check the packing, and check the video game's title, then you can go to WWW.Common Sense Media for all the media to check to see if it is the recommended age for your child. If it's not don't buy it and buy another video game.....they'll live.

The media contributes to the perpetuation of stereotypes and prejudice in America as they show viewers either from the television , newspapers, etc things in certain ways that makes them think as a stereotyped or prejudice person, For example, in the media they represent Muslims all as threats and bad people due to the American government 'claiming' that Muslims caused the destruction of people's lives in the bombing of the World Trade Center in New York. Due to this, many people have now changed their views on Muslim people and mainly think of them as terrorists. Nearly everyday in the media they also represent Black people, normally Black males, as criminals and drug dealers. In newspapers everyday the media represents people of color in negative ways. This causes tensions between racial groups and causes people who are weak to stereotype and be prejudice to other ethnic groups.

Mass media became on of the main sources of popular culture in modern capitalist society. Media, however, not only entertains and offers news to people, but also transfers the stereotypes, beliefs and values of the society to reproduce the existing order of social life. Louis Althusser in his theory of ideological state apparatuses, says that schools, families, religions play the role of the ideological state apparatuses. These institutions invisibly transfer and indoctrinate the dominant hegemonic ideology of the society into the minds of people in order to be able to control people. In the modern capitalist world, I would argue, media turned to be yet another althusserian ideological apparatus that control the mind of masses. It seems like media creates the unique pieces of art: movies, documentaries, magazines, music, TV shows and others.
