Idiosyncratic beliefs are those which are regarded as bizarre, strange, or out of keeping with the norm. It is important to respect them because it is disrespectful to belittle another person's beliefs. Additionally, it is important to let people have their say, especially if they are in the minority.

What are the ways to prevent stereotyping prejudice and bias?

The most important issue for religious harmony is to treat the beliefs of others with respect. Of course, this begins with ourselves, even though we probably believe that our own beliefs are the only truth. If others in the community are displaying intolerance towards your beliefs, it is wise not to respond in kind. Demonstrate confidence in your beliefs, but try to move the subject on to other matters. To treat the beliefs of others with respect really does mean accepting thoses beliefs as equally valid. That's the hard part. But someone has to make a start, and set an example for others in society. Interacial and interfaith marriages can be an extraordinarily important way of breaking down barriers. This means accepting the marriage, on equal terms and without preconditions, of a Muslim and a Christian or Hindu.

Why is learning that love is respect important?

Answer You cannot truly love if you have no respect for yourself or for others. You cannot possibly love someone whom you do not respect. If someone thinks that they can, they are fooling themselves. If you are in a relationship and there is no respect for each other, I do not believe that true love exists in that relationship. So...learning that love is respect is important because love or any kind of relationship cannot survive if respect is not present on both sides.

Why should you respect others?

Having proper respect means treating others as equally important, as in the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would have others do unto you). Respect is a social function, showing that you recognize what things are done to benefit you and others like you. Showing respect promotes harmony among families and other groups.
