as humans evolved we have become less connected to our basic animal behaviors, ie. sight, hearing, and so on. the need to replace, or in a sence replaced or supressed an instinct with the use of learned skill, such as the ability to make fire. for example, the automible, trains, plains, and so on. can you immagine modern society without this? they are just crutches that disconect us further, we will never loose contact with our ancestors because the basics will allways be the same........primative man never had fear of darkness it was just that once he found fire "he couldn't live without it", just like modern transport.

or just: evolutionary!
