That depends onthe intensity of the tornado. The weakest tornadoes will only cause minor damage, and just about everything would remain in place. In fact in the majority of tornadoes, few things would go very far, though some structures and vegetation may be in pieces. In strong tornadoes, weak strucures may be blown away with debirs scattered some distance while other strucutres will be severely damaged. In areas worst hit by violent tornadoes, many strucutres will be left as piles of rubble with some blown away. most trees will be toppled or carried away but some will remain in place with bark and limbs torn away. chucnks of asphalt may be torn from roads. In the strongest tornadoes, those worth of EF5 ratings, the worst hit areas will have nearly all man made strucutres torn from their foundation, leaving empty foundations and fields of debris. In some cases grass may be torn from the ground. In the most extreme case of tornado dmage on record a subdivision in Jarrell, Texas was completely obliterated. All homes, trees, grass, roads, and driveways were blown away. The soil was scoured away to a depth of 18 inches. Very little debris remain. What was left consisted of splinters. Other than that, the neighborhood was reduced to a field of mud with concrete slabs where houses once were.
