Persephone was shot with a love arrow from Eros(son of Aphrodite) and she then fell in love with Hades. She followed him into the underworld and on the day she was going to leave Hades tricked her into eating a pomegranate therefore, since she ate the food of the underworld, she would have to stay there forever. When Demeter heard of this she was extremely angry and let the world weep. Hades made a promise to let Persephone stay in the real world for half the year. Every year when she goes down into the underworld Demeter lets the flowers and trees weep creating the winter. When she comes back up Demeter brings everything back to life creating Spring and Summer. Right after Persephone leaves, fall is created.
