Nothing. According to Paul sinners cannot earn redemption. Redemption is only possible because of the death of Jesus:

Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Redemption has the idea of being "bought back" and of deliverance from enslavement to sin. The death of Christ is the redemptive price, His atoning sacrifice is the ransom paid for man's deliverance:

Matthew 20:28 .................the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
