Mormons are allowed to drink anything that is not harmful to the body. Anything that is beneficial to ones well being is acceptable in moderation. You might ask is beer or spirits harmful? In and of themselves no they are not, it is when one becomes addicted to such drinks that the harmful affects will be felt. It is, as far as Mormons are concerned, better to be a total abstainer than to be a moderate drinker.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) has a health code called the Word of Wisdom. Church members are expected to interpret this health code for themselves.

The Word of Wisdom has this to say about beverages, "That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father... And, again, strong drinks are not for the belly... And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly." The Prophet Joseph Smith later clarified that 'hot drinks' were coffee and tea. Modern prophets have also counseled against "harmful and addictive substances," specifically mentioning illegal drugs and energy drinks.

Some Church members drink sodas and cola drinks, and others do not. Some will drink it only if it is caffeine free. It all depends on their interpretation of the above guidelines. Church members are required to abstain from alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco, and illegal drug use - everything else is up to their interpretation of the Word of Wisdom.
