No one is worthy of grace in the sense that they should expect that God owes them grace. God freely chose to give His grace despite the unworthiness of us as imperfect beings.
The majority of Protestants believe that faith in Jesus Christ is open to all people and that such faith confirms one in grace. A simple but pure act of the will, submitting to Jesus as God and believing in His redemptive mission will thus bring grace into the soul and spiritually anoint one as a Christian. The best way to attain this is through The Bible, where the deeds and words of Christ are contained as well as the entire mystery of God's revelation to man. There is differing theological opinions amongst Protestants, however, if grace once received is permanent and forever guaranteeing the soul heaven, or if it can be lost through vicious action or loss of Faith.
Catholics also believe that God offers His grace to all. Catholics, however, believe that faith in Christ entails belief in His Church, His sacraments, hierarchy, and teachings. Catholics believe that a faithful Christian is one who follows Christ by putting his/her faith into action through works: attending religious ceremonies, availing themselves of sacraments through which Christ's grace is efficaciously transmitted and living an upright and virtuous life. Catholics believe that faith is not sufficient to save since human acts of the will are often not pure and dubious and can never be confirmed. Sacraments that are infused with Christ's graces and promises make up for this difficulty of the will as well as acting as channels through which Catholics claim Christ wishes us to come to Him. A Catholic, therefore, that falls into sin must be reconciled to Christ by availing him/herself of the sacraments and then confidently resume their pursuit of heaven through Christian living. Despite the very serious theological differences, both Protestants and Catholics do agree that God's grace is freely offered to all, and that all have the potential to be saved by faith in Jesus Christ.
