Are people who believe in God better human beings than atheists?

A.Someone who believes in God is not neccessarily better than one who doesn't. We all have the potential to be really good human beings. It is who we are and what we do that makes us better human beings. What a person believes or doesn't believe should never be used against another human being. A.Every persons life is controlled by God. He is the one that makes us good, not on our own power, but His. So, no, there is no such thing as person being better than another. But what God makes us believe, governs what we do. It is impossible to separate what we believe from what we do.

Apparently believers in gods are good because they are afraid that their god will punish them for being bad (whatever their god figures is "bad") People who do not believe in God are still good and they do this because they understand the concept of good and altruistic behavior and proper social interaction. It would seem that people that are good because they understand the concept of good are better off than those who are only good because they fear punishment. However, if all that keeps the believers from being bad is the fear of punishment, we should hope they continue their belief.

Some are and some are not. If you look at how people act, people who are religious are, on the whole, no better or worse that people who are not religious. Some religious people have been wonderful people who have helped make the world a better place. Examples include Mother Theresa, the Sisters of Mercy, and Martin Luther King. At the same time others who believe in God have committed terrible atrocities, sometimes taking their religion as their cause. The 9/11 hijackers, Timothy McVeigh, and members of the historic Ku Klux Klan all believed in God.
