Of course, But there have been restylings of religious costumes since Vatican II. some have an undress- or regular duty uniform that, except for the veil, could pass muster as a travel hostess or perhaps a female subway conductor. The traditional costumes, like Dress Uniforms in the armed forces, are retained for formal occasions such as masses, induction ceremonies, funerals, etc. Each order is different as regards dress rules, however. there are no, or very few (Plainclothes) or (Undercover) Nuns and the situation in the (Oddly) Elvis Presely film ( change of habit) -not about drug rehabilitation! was in the light of canon law, practically impossible . Nuns do not work undercover- certainly not in major cities, as three of them did in the film. somewhat improbably Presely played a ( Hip) socially-reform minded Doctor- Oh Boy!
They are supposed to wear habits, but many choose not to.
Conceptionists, or nuns blonging to the Order of the Immaculate Conception. They are Roman Catholic.
Traditionally, and many contemporary convents of Carmelites wear a brown habit with a white wimple and black veil. They wear a cape over the entire thing when they are in choir, although there are some "modern" nuns who have modified their habits, or done away with them altogether. For the most part, the nuns with no habits are dying out, and the only orders that are surviving and growing are wearing habits.
Yes, nuns can wear regular clothes when they are not in their religious habits. Some orders allow nuns to choose their own attire, while others may have specific guidelines for casual dress.
Modern day nuns wear habits witch are usually a full length, long sleeved, black robe with some kind of a wierd hat that goes from her head to her shoulders.
The habits look like School Sisters of Notre Dame.
Nuns' rosary beads often serve as a personal and spiritual tool for prayer, regardless of their attire. With some religious orders adopting more modern or simplified habits, the beads remain a significant symbol of their faith and practice. Even without traditional habits, nuns continue to use rosaries as a way to connect with their spirituality and community. Thus, the use of rosary beads transcends the style of their clothing.
I believe they were all actresses
It was fictional. the convent was in Canada in the novel, movie, and play. the costumes worn by the Nuns were a takeoff on some German dress helmets used in World War I and were not prototypical Habits.
You just call Monks Monks and Nuns Nuns. They don't have any other names.
Well, honey, technically any nun who wears a white habit would be considered a "white nun." But if you're talking about a specific order of nuns, the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill wear white habits. Just remember, it's not the color of the habit that matters, it's the heart underneath it that counts.
