In studying this subject, many confuse the verses dealing with the consequences of believers who suffer loss of rewards at the Bema Seat of Christ (Judgment Seat of Christ) with punishment levels in Hell for UN-believers. (See Romans 14.10-12; 2Corinthians 5.10)

However, the following passages and others like them, when considered in context, do seem to imply a distinct contrast and differing degrees of awareness for the damned.

  • Moses warned of God: "For a fire is kindled in My anger, And burns to the lowest part of Sheol, And consumes the earth with its yield, And sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.
  • Solomon wrote: "If thou sayest, 'We knew not this,' doth not he that weigheth the heart consider it? And he that keepeth thy soul, doth he not know it? And shall not he render to every man according to his work?" (Proverbs 24:12).
  • Yeshua declared: "Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, it shall be moretolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee (Matthew 11:21-24)
  • "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of Hell you are." (Matthew 23.15)
Probably the greatest degree of punishment in the Eternal Lake of Fire, where even Hell and all its occupants will ultimately be cast, is the recurring awareness of the fact that none of its occupants had to be there, since Christ Himself had already borne the full penalty of their sin. They are there only by choice in rejecting or ignoring the free gift of God's true grace, His Son, the Lord Yeshua (Jesus) the Christ by simple faith. <><

Hell is wholly understood by many

Mainly because people attempt to fit everything into one earth iteration when the word of our Father clearly states there will be 3 earth iterations (2nd Peter 3), and we are now in the 2nd, the word and condition called hell is misunderstood.

Hell is not a place that exists eternally, its a temporary condition only existing until after the 2nd Judgment occurs (that's right there are two judgments - Revelation 20), and the 3rd Earth iteration comes into existence (Revelation 21). Christ himself refers to hell, relating it to the burn pits outside Jerusalem (valley of Hinnom, Gehenna) .

Once this earth iteration ends all of its elements are burned up (no longer required)

Once the second judgment occurs all souls found not worthy according to their works go into the lake of fire

Hell is that place that souls reside in before the end of this 2nd earth iteration occurs. There is an excellent explanation given in the book of Luke 16, there are additionally many good experiences by those who have resurrected (often called NDE) who have described the events of Luke 16 in great detail, via their live experience of it (Ian McCormack and Howard Storm for starters)

There will be no need for Hell after the second judgment, as all the evil has been collected up, tested by the touch stone, and eliminated.
