No. However they can be married prior to becoming ordained a Deacon and stay married. They can have children before or after the ordination as a married Deacon.

However, it is my understanding that, once ordained, the deacon must remain celebate.

Is a deacon-officiated ceremony recognized by the Catholic Church?

Yes, if done with permission of the pastor. A deacon, however, can not say Mass, hear confessions or anoint the sick. He can lead prayer services (such as Stations of the Cross, novenas, etc.) and can baptize and marry couples.

Could a divorce deacon and a widow catholic marry?

A Deacon is an ordained minister and cleric of the Catholic Church and has the authority to perform the Sacraments of Baptism, and Marriage providing there is no Mass. This is because, unlike a Priest, a Deacon cannot preside over the Eucharistic Sacrament. They are sanctioned to read the gospel and deliver the homily during Mass as well.

Does the deacon have to be married?

In the Catholic Church, once a man has received ordination of the diaconate, he cannot marry. However, if a man is already married, he can then become a deacon (this is known as being part of the permanent diaconate, as opposed to the transitional diaconate, which is for men who intend to become priests). Should a permanent deacon's wife pass away, he is not free to marry again.

Can a Catholic chaplain get married?

It depends upon the level of his ordination. If he is a laychaplain - i.e. if he is not ordained - then yes, he can marry. If he has been ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church, then again, he can marry. But if the chaplain is an ordained priest (or bishop), then in the Roman Catholic Church they are not allowed to marry and take a vow of celibacy (not having sex) at their ordination. There has been a lot of controversy over this man-made rule recently especially as a very small percentage of priests in the Anglican Church (who ARE allowed to marry) have defected to the Catholic Church because they disagreed with women in the Anglican Church being allowed to be ordained. This has caused quite a stir and many feel the ban on marriage of priests in the Roman Catholic Church as outdated and wrong and are looking to the time when married priests and bishops (of both sexes) will be allowed into the Catholic Church.

Can a Catholic marry in a presbyterian church?

If you are Catholic do you have to marry in the Church?

.Catholic AnswerYes, in the normal way of doing things, a Catholic must be married before a priest or deacon in a Church. In the Catholic faith marriage is a religious act, taken in the presence of God. Hence marriages not performed by the proper authority is not a marriage at all in the strictest sense.

Do protestants have to take classes at a Catholic Church to marry a Catholic in a protestant church?

Yes, not only must they take a class, but the Catholic must receive special permission (which is not always given) from the Bishop to have a wedding outside of a Catholic Church. Even if it is outside a Catholic Church, the wedding must still be witnessed by a Catholic priest (deacon, or bishop) or it is not valid.
