Mormon missionaries are supposed to exercise each morning. Generally, missionaries exercise in or near their home, occasionally they may use a church hall if their living space is too small. Going to a gym usually requires travel time and money, resources which are limited for missionaries. Going to a gym may also involve sexual temptations which a missionary who is trying to be fully focused on God would want to avoid. I have known missionaries who did exercise at a gym though, it really just depends on the individual situation and the approval of the mission president.
