Wilhelm Schmidt, an accomplished Austrian linguist, historian of religion, anthropologist, and ethnologist, commenting on one writer, Levy Bruhl, said that due to Bruhl's lack of historical research "he indulges in a wild confusion to be equalled only in the writings of the oldest Evolutionists." Wilhelm Schmidt, The Origin and Growth of Religion. He conclusively demonstrated that "the evolutionists often have almost no evidence for their theories, or they use only selective evidence to support their opinions." Greg Hannington, "Wilhelm Schmidt and the origin of religions," AIG article.
Evolutionary theories, such as animism, ghost-worship, totemism and magic, as being the origin of man's belief in God have all been refuted by Schmidt. This is accomplished by constantly referring to evidence found from studies of primitive peoples. Although Schmidt's book was published in 1931 60 years ago he is still given respect by evolutionary scholars today, because of the quality of his research. While these acknowledge the scholarship of Schmidt and the evidence compelling which he presents, they do not openly agree with him, because of the detriment to their evolutionary bias.
The earliest religions that were brought to Iceland came from Irish Monks. The original religion in Iceland was Norse paganism.
Monotheism is the biggest difference of Abraham's religion and the religions of other people in Mesopotamia.
Monotheism did not become a religion. It is a type of religion. It is a religion which has only one god, as opposed to polytheism, which is a religion with many gods. There are various theories about the emergence of monotheist religions, but they are just that, theories.
The earliest religions that were brought to Iceland came from Irish Monks. The original religion in Iceland was Norse paganism.
The term is "exclusive monotheism." Monotheism refers to the belief that there is only one god, while exclusive just clarifies it as a religion that denies the existence of other religions' gods.
No, there were many major religions before it that taught monotheism. Judaism is an obvious example.
Monotheism refers to the belief in a single, universal God. Common examples are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Forms of monotheism can also be found in other religions including Sikhism, Zoroastrianism and the Bahá'í Faith. Zoroastrianism is considered by many scholars to be the earliest example of monotheistic belief. Others consider Judaism to be the original form of monotheism, while others yet think it originated in Egypt. It is not to be confused with henotheism (the belief in one god over and above other gods that exist). Another source of confusion are claims by representatives of some religions that other religions are not monotheistic because the latter do not adhere to some specific criteria defined by the former.
Christianity and Islam. __________________________________________________________ Any religion may be influenced by another religion if it is a man developed religion and not same God religion. The three religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam are God religions created by same God. Hence it is logic to find common features in the three religions; mainly monotheism. Accordingly, it is hard to believe that any religion got influenced by another religion. Otherwise, how the three religion are same God religions and not man made religions.

Polytheism for Aztecs, Monotheism for Catholics. Or also Jesus (who does not exist in Aztec religion but is central in Christianity).
Similarities between monotheism and polytheism are that they are both used to describe religions. They both involve at least one god.
Zoroastrianism appears to have held motheism before Judaism, but it is *very* disputed exactly when monotheism developed in the Abrahamic religions.
