The apostles, including Saint Paul, Saint James, and Saint Peter, traveled far away from Jerusalem preaching and converting people to Christianity. When there were enough Christians in a particular town or area, the apostles and their helpers could create a Christian church.

Some believe that Christ preached as far away as India, and the apostles are alleged to have traveled, perhaps, as far as to Spain and/or Africa. We do know that the Coptic Christians of Ethiopia have been there for a long, long time. One of the apostles may have made it that far. How else would the Ethiopians become Christians?
