Discernment is the correct orthography. It is a concept, not a process. I have never heard it linked directly to Vatican II. Much was made of Aggiornamento- an Italian Phrase that might be translated either ( Living in Today- or the Present tense) or Updating. ( note the avoidance of the more obvious term Progreso).
