Satan even tempted Jesus while he was here on Earth. (Matthew 4:1-11) He mercilessly attacked the righteous man Job. The Apostle Peter describes him as walking around like a lion, seeking to eat a person. Peter gives us this encouragement though in the next verse: "Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are." - 1 Peter 5:8,9

The idea of a person "selling his soul" to the devil is not a Biblical concept. The Bible indicates that every person's soul belongs to God.

Ezekiel 18:4 (KJV) "Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die."

You cannot sell something that doesn't belong to you. From a Biblical standpoint, this is a lie that the devil uses to keep a person thinking there is no way God would ever forgive them or welcome them back. The devil apparently wants a human to think that he owns them. King Manasseh was described in the Bible as someone who actually worshipped demons. (2 Kings 21:5) But he later repented and was accepted back into God's good graces. (2 Chronicles 33:12,13)

The ransom sacrifice of Jesus can even cover serious sins:

Ephesians 1:7 - "By means of him we have the release by ransom through the blood of that one, yes, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his undeserved kindness."

Romans 8:38,39 - "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
