Purpose for iron wheels is so they can't use it as a mode of transportation for long distances. Making it difficult to travel far keeps the community together. Tractors are used as a power unit in the barn area.
there are many different types of Amish the ones im most familiar with is the ones called the new order . the ones i know best allow electricity and farm with tractors and other modern equipment , but still use horses or bikes for short range transportation and hire drivers for longer trips
