Baptists accept that there are three Jewish groups represented in the apostles. They are the Pharisees, Sadducees and the Zealots. The Essenes were not represented because they were monks and lived separate to the average person.
Judas Iscariot was believed to be a Zealot and was the reason that he insisted that Jesus show his hand and throw out the Romans.
By the way, John the Baptist is believed to be raised by the Essene because his parents were so old and died before he was of age.

A disciple is a follower of Christ. An apostle is one who is set apart or ordained as a leader is Christ's church. There were, and are 12 apostles to serve in Christ's church. There are millions of "disciples" or followers of Christ.
