Catholics have never had to seek the permission of the pope to pray to God the Father, Son or Holy Spirit. Nor do they need permission from the pope to pray to the saints for intercession.
Catholics believe that suicide is a mortal sin. However, if the person who committed suicide did so without full knowledge or without complete consent, then it is possible that they can get to heaven. Catholics can not know if these things are happening, so they pray for those who have taken their own lives.
Protestants do not believe in purgatory because they interpret the Bible differently from Catholics. Protestants believe that when a person dies, they go directly to heaven or hell based on their faith in Jesus Christ. They do not see any biblical evidence for a temporary place like purgatory where souls are purified before entering heaven. Protestants emphasize the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of sins, and they believe that believers are made righteous through faith in Jesus alone, without the need for purification in purgatory.
I, being catholic, know that children are often disciplined by spanking, time outs, etc.
Catholics believe in the hope of God's mercy that babies who die without baptism will be with God in heaven. Catholics believe that the true church of Christ is the Catholic Church, it also believes that elements of the true church subsist in other churches and believes in the hope that all are saved regardless of faith or baptism if they live a life of goodness in accordance with their beliefs and do not reject God or deliberately turn away from God.
The shed blood of Jesus Christ is the inexhaustible source of forgiveness of sins. Jesus came to earth with the express purpose to die for mankind's sin. When you accept Jesus as your Savior His shed blood is applied to your soul and you inherit eternal life. Without His blood no person will be saved.
Mass is a sacrament in that Holy Communion is created through transubstantiation and administered to the Catholics present. Without the Eucharist portion of the mass, it is simply a ceremony or service without a sacrament.
The Sanskrit symbol for forgiveness is "क्षमा" (kshama). It represents the concept of forgiveness, letting go, and moving forward without holding onto grudges.
Maryland was the only colony where Catholics were free to worship without fear of persecution.
Certainly, Catholics are required to intercede directly with God. The priest is there as God's chosen emissary. Normally, when God is speaking directly with a person, He is speaking through some means: the Bible, the priest, the Mass, etc.
Cecil Calvert founded Maryland as a colony for Catholics.
Fear. Baptists, as I recall, are wary of ritualistic services. Many conservative baptists do not like the use of icons in the church. They also believe very strongly in the priesthood of the believer, meaning that a believer should be able to approach God through prayer without an intercessory like a priest. That the confession of sin could and should be directly to God and forgiveness sought from man. The elevation of Mary as an intercessory is also frowned upon.
Yes, Catholics still follow the teachings of Christ that salvation is obtained by faith coupled with good works. As St. James said, "Faith without good works is dead." Also, read Matthew chapter 25.
