Egyptians where mummified for a reason that it would preserve their bodies for people of the future to find and discover their secrets, as they thought language in the future would not be the same. Mummifying was only done to those citizens or royalty who had shown great achievement or progress in life, in doing so, they where mummified and put in crypts or in the Pyramids as we know today. You had to be fairly rich to be mummified and had to arrange it whilst you where still alive, it wasn't just like being put in a cemitary as we know it today. No. Being mummified was very expensive in ancient Egypt. Only a privileged few people were mummified. These people would have been Pharaohs, priests or other really important people.
