If you say you don't believe in God you won't go to a place of torment.

Maybe the important question is why you don't believe in God?

There is no scientific evidence that we evolved... The missing link has never been found. Just because bad things happen, doesn't mean we don't have a creator, just as a knife can be used for killing someone... but it doesn't mean no one made it! Design needs a designer. You don't look at a house, and say no one built it... Look how amazingly designed the earth is. The Bible says at Hebrews chapter 3 verse 4

every house is constructed by someone, but he that constructed all things is God.

The question is dependant on what religion you belong to. It is also strongly dependant on whether there is a God, or ann afterlife of any sort.Many fundamentalist Christians believe they have a lock on the criteria for going to heaven or hell after death. There isn't a lot of consistency in the process. Fundamentalists in other faiths have positions that would exclude even the mot correct of Christian followers. other religions approach the matter differently - Vikings would require that you die in battle for any sort of after death reward, Hindus and Buddhists have different criteria for having an afterlife and the ancient egyptians would require proper mummification and preservation of your boy to stay in the afterjife.

The position of atheists would be that since there is no god, heaven or hell the question is not worth bothering with.

So if you are a nine year old who believes that denying god is a crime punishable by eternal torment and damnation - you still don't know and nobody can tell you the answer.
