The simple answer is that no one knows what God looks like. No one has seen God, so it is not possible to create a statue of God. Besides, if there was a statue like that it would most likely be something else "man" would worship and we are not to worship images. See the scriptures below (NIV translation): John 1:18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
1 John 4:12 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
Instead of having los of statues like in the church they have tapestries and absoluteley no statues at all in the synagogue. Another point that leads away from decoration is that they don't say God in the synagogue. They say G-d or Adoni as the name is too sacred. They also have the difference in readings such as the Bible in the church and the Torah in the synagogue. Hope this helped :D
Synagogues generally do not have any statues.
A good place to begin a search for an answer is Exodus chapter 20, especially the beginning of the chapter, where the first of the Ten Commandments is stated.
No one worships the synagogue itself. God is worshiped in the synagogue.
Statues offered as a gift to a god or saint.
