In modern non-Jewish related cultures, they are refered to as the Pentateuch (from the Latin- pentateuchus or Greek - pentateuchos) However, the proper term for the first 5 books is Torah. With that said, Torah like many Hebrew words, means more than one thing. Torah (from it's root yarah) means direction/teaching/instruction. Yet, it is almost always translated as law. So "God's Law" can also refer to the collection of commands given by God to Israel through Moses.
