No they are not real. Although P. T. Barnum displayed the Fiji mermaid for many a year. This was later found to be a monkey carcase with a fish tail sewed on.
The mermaid myth came up when sailors thought they saw a mermaid but they are actually manatees

∙ 13y agoI would say not very many. I think mermaids are more just for movies, but some people do probably believe in mermaids and maybe even think that they have saw one, but I would say very few people say that they have seen mermaids.<3
P.S.-I DON'T believe in mermaids, although when I was little I really liked the little mermaid :)
