A Hindu sanctuary, or mandir, devasthana, pura, gudi, koil or kovil in different Indian dialects, is a construction intended to unite Hindus and divine beings through love, penance, and commitment, considered the place of the god to whom it is committed.

Hindu love, known as puja, includes every one of the five feelings of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing, and furthermore what Hindus view as the five essential components: light, fire, earth, air and water. It very well may be completed in the home of Hindus before a sanctuary, or in the Hindu sanctuary, which is known as a mandir.
