The Gospels say in Nazareth, about 16 miles west of the Sea of Galilee. The modern town of Nazareth may or may not have been the site of the one mentioned in the Gospels as the location was not formally defined in Christian Tradition until the fourth century (301 AD to 400 AD) under Emperor Constantine and is not mentioned in any existing Jewish texts written before the third century (201 AD to 300 AD).

Jesus did not teach from the gospels per se, as the gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John had not yet been written. They are the account of His life and teachings written by these men after Jesus had died.
Neither scripture nor tradition tells us when Joseph died but it seems to have occurred before Jesus began his public life as he is not mentioned in the Gospels after the finding of Jesus in the temple at age 12. As the family lived in Nazareth at the time, we must assume that Joseph died there.
