There are many, many things in life that seem 'unexplainable'. As just a few examples:
- Parents whose baby has died.
- Parents who experience grief over their child turning to drugs or alcohol.
- Why it seems "the good always die too young".
- Why someone rejected you.
- Why someone betrayed you.
- Times when you hurt yourself by something you did.
- Times when you made a very embarrassing or costly mistake.
- Why if God hears all prayers, why doesn't He hear yours.
- If there is a God, why doesn't He help.
Trying to understand something that is or seems unexplainable often seems like trying to grab a hold of air!
When things are unexplainable, or just seem so hard to understand, we often have to rely on our own personal meaning for why something happened. For example, parents who lost another child after the first sometimes say, "he/she went to be with his brother/sister". Is it absolute truth? Maybe not, but it helps that family to explain and understand one of the most painful events a parent can endure.
When the unexplainable is something we've done-- or a friend did-- sometimes the only thing is to forgive and move on. But forgiving ourselves is hard.
