The prophet Amos; there is the book of Amos found in the Old TestamentAmos 1:[1] The words of Amos, who was among the herdman of Tekoa----Amos 7:14] Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:[15] And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
In commencement, doom is defined as judgement.Given this definetion and in line with the topic under discussion it cannot be dismissed as far fetched to suppose that Amos was a prophet of doom. It can be argued that doom is at the core of Amos' message and this doom came as a result of various sins which were commited by the lsraelite nation. These sins include rampant corruption in the courts, social injustice as well as idolatry. It must be pointed out that these sins breeched the covenant between yahweh and the israelite. As a result this has led many scholars to argue that Amos indeed was a prophet of doom. While acknowledging that Amos was a prophet of doom it will be a misnormer of judgement to conclude along those lines. A closer glance at Amos book can lead one to point out that Amos was a prophet of hope.
Amos was the father of Isaiah. Not to be confused with Amos the prophet, no relation.
Amos could have died in 750 B.C.
There are two people named Amos in the Bible. First, the prophet Amos, who was born in Tekoa(ten miles south of Jerusalem). The Bible tells us that he was a sheep raiser and 'nipper of figs', and that he was NOT the 'son of a prophet', but that's all it says of his early life.(Amos 7:14)(Amos 1:1) His father is not mentioned. The other Amos is one of Jesus' ancestors (Luke 3:25). His father was Mattathias, but there is no further information on him.
It challenged the people because they had forgotten about the one true God.
The book of Amos is written by the prophet Amos, he was a herdsmen before god called him.
